All Members and ATV Enthusiasts’ in the Douglastown / Newcastle area:

We are yet again fast approaching the winter season and time to consider our grooming options.  This year, it is our desire to groom from the Anderson Bridge to the Bonne-Route, but this is something that doesn’t come without challenges  Your Board of Directors are working hard to find solutions to these challenges, both in terms of winter grooming and 4-Season trail development.  It’s too early to announce some of those initiatives yet, but I can tell you that our Club has established 2 priorities for the 2012 driving year:

1.      Clearly establish and maintain a 4-season link, including trail condition improvements from the Anderson Bridge and the Bonne-Route, and
2.      To establish a driving loop using the “Crazy Tree” trail to benefit all riders.

There is no doubt that there are many other things people would like to see done and we will continue to put together projects and priorities for the following years, but for this year, these are the two things we will achieve as a club, if we have the membership and the support.

The one challenge to our accomplishment of these goals is individual support, both in terms of Club Membership “Trail Pass” support and volunteers for input and trail work.  Without the member there is no club and we will never advance or even continue to exist.  If I didn’t hear this a million times, I never heard it once, “why would I pay you, the trails are the same trails I drove when I was a kid”.  I am asking for your help to change this once and for all.  We are no longer waiting for someone to do it for us, your BOD is committed to take this “Bull by the horns” ourselves this year, if the membership gives us the mandate to do it.

As you may or may not know, the 2012 Memberships (passes) are now out.  In order to turn the groomer on this year, we need a minimum of 65 members to cover the fuel and insurance.  If we do not reach this, the groomer will stay parked for this season.  For this reason I am asking each of you to support us with the purchase of the $75 membership and to encourage your fellow bikers to do the same.  The more memberships we have, the farther the groomer rolls this winter and the more trail work we can start up with in the spring.

The second challenge is sponsorship from local business in these economic times.  Without financial assistance to subsidize machine maintenance and trail work needs such as new signs, this puts even more pressure on our need to increase membership numbers.  We have always benefited from our many friends in the community for help in the past and can only hope that this continues as the club grows and that new partners will agree to give us a hand.

Thank you all for your support
